Kenya’s Masai Mara is arguably the country’s most famous reserve. Its smooth grass-carpeted hills and plains dotted with flat-topped acacia trees are full of rich faunal diversity, fulfilling the expectations of any visitor searching the African landscape for the Big 5. Located west of the Rift Valley, the Mara is a natural extension of the Serengeti plains, in neighbouring Tanzania. The Mara River, the reserve’s backbone, traverses north to south. This course is the natural barrier crossed every year by the large migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra which march across the two parks in a quest for the best pastures, crossing en route the crocodile-infested river. Coupled with ever-watchful predatory cats in the midst, the annual migration is a risky operation and fraught with peril. Enjoy a game drive through the Mara and the chance to spot a diverse array of wildlife including elephant, giraffe, black rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, gazelle, buffalo, hippo, various other herbivorous species and birds.

Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi. A nights pre expedition accommodation is included at Acacia Camp Nairobi. Today there is a pre departure meeting at 17.00 where you will meet your tour leader and the rest of your group.

Day 2 Nairobi to Masai Mara. Departing from Nairobi at 0930hrs, we journey via the spectacular Great Rift Valley and Narok Town to the legendary Masai Mara. We arrive at our campsite late afternoon. Dinner and overnight - Masai Mara.

Day 3 Masai Mara - breakfast. We depart shortly after sunrise on our game drive into the Masai Mara Reserve. We game drive through a section of the park in search of the ‘Big 5’- elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion & leopard; along with the many other species of animals, reptiles and birds who make call this wilderness home. This afternoon, there is an opportunity to visit one of the local Masai Manyatta’s – this is a traditional village of the Masai People. Lunch, dinner and overnight - Masai Mara.

Day 4 Masai Mara - Nairobi - breakfast. We leave the Masai Mara and head back to Nairobi, arriving late in the afternoon.

Pre expedition - starts Wednesday, ends Saturday.
Post expedition - starts Saturday, ends Tuesday.
Please note that the free offer excludes the local payment, which must be paid on day 1. If you decide to take the option to stay on in the Masai Mara, to join up with your camping expedition (instead of returning to Nairobi), there will be an additional cost of US$120, which you will need to pay locally (this includes the park entry fee and 3 meals.) This bolt-on requires a minimum of 2 participants to run.
