Livingstone is a historic colonial city and Zambia’s gateway to the magnificent Victoria Falls, 10kms away in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, which is situated along the upper Zambezi. Livingstone was established in 1905 and named after the famous Victorian missionary explorer, Dr. David Livingstone. This interesting city was once the capital of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), before it moved to Lusaka. Zambia is the less commercial and quieter side of Victoria Falls. From Mosi-oa-Tunya national park there are several wonderful vantage points and the falls can be viewed from above as well as below. On the Zambian side, the best views of the Victoria Falls are from Livingstone Island (visits here, are generally restricted to the ‘low water’ season – mid-July to end of January). The national park forms the south-western boundary of Livingstone and is also home to an abundance of wildlife including zebra, giraffe, antelope and white rhinos. Zambia offers many of the same adventure activities as Zimbabwe, like bungee jumping and sundowner cruises on the Zambezi. Travelling by overland camping safari or a  tailor made safari of your own invention, Zambia is well worth a visit.
