Climb where few, if any, have gone before! The Antarctic Peninsula offers energetic climbers hundreds of unclimbed peaks and we cater for all levels of expertise.
Our Climbers voyage is suitable for people of all ages. We have mountain guides on board to look after you. In past seasons we have climbed a number of easy snow peaks and several more technical peaks. We have made first ascents on many peaks on the western side of the Peninsula – ie mountains that had never been climbed before!
A typical snow climb takes four to ten hours approximately and involves steep walking up 700 to 1000 metres, across crevassed slopes, but you don't need to have experience in crevasse rescue techniques. You will have to use an ice axe and you may need to wear crampons. You will need a moderate level of fitness. If you want to venture on to more difficult peaks you will need a high level of fitness, experience in crevasse rescue and some experience in moving quickly in alpine terrain. We are on the cutting edge of climbing exploration in the Antarctic Peninsula, which means that we are cautiously exploring new ground. Obviously, safety comes first and the weather and ice conditions control our movements. This might mean we might not be able to meet every person's aspirations - but we will try!
PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT THIS EXPEDITION IS NOT INTENDED TO BE AN INSTRUCTIONAL CLIMBING CLASS. However if you have minimal experience, it is possible to give you a simple introduction to climbing on a snow peak, including use of ice axe and crampons, so that you can climb to the top of a beautiful minor peak - there are hundreds of exciting possibilities!
If you wish to climb please advise us at the time of booking. Climbing is only available on certain departures and a surcharge applies. Please contact us for further details.
