Jewel of the Nile Sun Festival - departs 15th October 2010
|
|
Join us to watch the Sun Festival of King Ramses II at Abu Simbel on 22nd October 2010.
Ramses II had his grand temple carefully angled and oriented in order that the sun's rays would align twice a year on the date of his ascension to the throne (21 February) and on his birthday (21 October) and illuminate the inner sanctum of the temple. This incredible natural phenomenon provides for a most spectacular sight as the sun illuminates the 3 statues of the living world, whilst the statute of Ptah - the god of darkness - remains in the shadows. The temple was re-located in a multi-million dollar operation in 1972, further up from the shoreline of Lake Nasser. In the temples new position the sun now strikes a day later than Ramses had originally planned.
on the go offers an opportunity to witness the phenomenon on our special 11 day Jewel of the Nile Sun Festival departure.
Includes: Coach from Aswan to Abu Simbel early morning on 22nd October 2010. Guided visit to Abu Simbel, the sunrise event, all entrance fees and transfers. Return coach back to Aswan after the event and commencement of our sightseeing program.

Postcards
Here's what some of our past travellers have written in to us and said about their experiences on this trip.
Hi Sally,
Just back from a fantastic trip. Wow!!! Everyone should visit Egypt once in their life, It is amazing. A big thank you must go to Tom our OnTheGo Cairo rep, he was great. It was so nice to be met inside the airport with a big smile, then have Tom take our luggage tags to collect our luggage while we waited to go through immigration.
He answered all of our questions and explained the currency to us, it was a great help.
We then arrived at the La Meridian Pyramids Hotel, and he took care of our check in, it was a shame that the pool area was under major renovation, however we had a lot to do in a short time.
We were then handed over to Mohammad Alam, he is the best!!!. Alam was great, he took us to Alexandria the next day and was a wealth of information. His knowledge of Egypt and its history was extensive and he made it easy to understand and did not get annoyed when we asked more questions, he was always willing to take his time and look after everyone on our Jewel of the Nile trip. The whole trip was greatly run and if I had to pick our the best part, I couldn't. They were all great.
Overall a great trip, the Pyramids and the Sphinx were totally out of this world and to be able to see them up close was fantastic. I even rode a camel!! Then their was the Valley of the Kings WOW!!! Cruising up the Nile was soooooo relaxing and the food was good.
I would love to go on another trip with On The Go and would not hesitate to recommend your company to anyone wanting a great holiday that is well planned at a great price.
Thanks again to Tom and Alam and all our drivers, we had a great time thanks to you all.
Liz Haynes and Gae Ward, Mar 2010
I throughoutly enjoyed the Nile experience. Our tour guide was friendly, fun and also very knowledgeable - he had the answers to all our questions, even the silly ones ;)
I am going to Jordan with On the Go in couple of months and I know I won't be disappointed.
Thanks a million!
Allira M, Jan 2010
Egyptian people are so fiendly and accommodating, I will be back for sure!
Alam is a great guide, very informative, passionate and good fun to be around to. He made our holiday most enjoyable.
Cheers guys!
Dorren Black, Dec 2009
Our tour guide, big Mo, was just wonderful - made the trip fantastic.
Will definitely do another trip with On the Go.
Renee Phillips, Nov 2009
Thank you for a fantastic trip in Egypt.
Had the best time.
The group was only 12 of us ,so was small yet enough people to enjoy each others company at meals time
Our tour organiser Ahmed was helpful & well organised,he help us with early check in upon arrival as we really needed it after such a long flight.
The personal pick up & drop off was great,we would have been so scared to do this on our own in such a unfamiliar country.
Our tour guide Mohamed was so helpful & friendly ,he went out of his way to accommodate all our special needs,ie when we wanted to go extra shopping when we had free time,he arranged it,when we were too tired to go on he let us rest .
The pace of the tour was great ,lots to see & but yet free leisure time also to relax.
Only downside was the train ride ,I would have preferred to pay extra for flight to & from Luxor then it would have been 5 star all the way as all the hotels was great & the cruise was up to expectation of a 5 star level.
I dont believe roughing it out in a five star tour should include this train journey maybe just on the journey oneway if have to be but not both ways.
I believe all others on the tour also share this view.
The tour was well orgaised ,staff friendly would definately recommend to others this tour.
Lily Tran, Oct 2009
I was very impressed with the knowledge of our tour guide - way beyond my expectation!
Boat Cruise was amazingly relaxing and the sights along the way breathtaking!
Eric Roby, Aug 2009
Tour guide - excellent.
Travel organization - excellent.
Perfect proportion of tour/free time.
Very very happy!!!
