Postcards
Here's what some of our past travellers have written in to us and said about their experiences on this trip.
Dear Mark
We returned from Egypt on Friday 20 after a great trip. Everything worked very smoothly. The felucca was great, and by far the best hotel was the one in Luxor. Other arrangements and additional day-trips were well-organised at short notice. The airport transfers were very good as well.
The guides were excellent - Abdul was a very effective organiser in Cairo, and Ahmed (our main tour guide) was excellent, very popular, great company, and explained the history and sites very well indeed, particularly in the museum where his commentary was superb. It is a very difficult task to highlight such a vast collection in a few words for a mixed audience with some knowledge/interest and also none. We had a very nice bunch of friendly people, which made it very companionable and fun. There were very few other tourists at most of the monuments - nice for us. It was generally sunny but not particularly hot most of the time - I suggest you recommend with slightly greater emphasis to people travelling in January that they should bring a warm jacket, woolly hat, and if sleeping on the felucca, a proper outdoor sleeping bag.
I am sure I will be doing another tour with 'On the Go' at some stage in the future.
Best wishes,
David Griffiths, Jan 2012

KING RAMSES II - ABU SIMBEL SUN FESTIVAL
Join us to watch the Sun Festival of King Ramses II at Abu Simbel on our King Rames Sun Festival tour, departing Tuesday 18 October 2011 and our Sun Chasing tour, departing Saturday 18 February 2012.
King Ramses II had his grand temple carefully angled and oriented in order that the sun's rays would align twice a year on the date of his ascension to the throne (21 February) and on his birthday (21 October) and illuminate the inner sanctum of the temple. This incredible natural phenomenon provides for a most spectacular sight as the sun illuminates the 3 statues of the living world, whilst the statute of Ptah - the god of darkness - remains in the shadows. The temple was re-located in a multi-million dollar operation in 1972, further up from the shoreline of Lake Nasser. In the temples new position the sun now strikes a day later than Ramses had originally planned.
on the go offers an opportunity to witness the phenomenon on our special King Ramses Sun Festival and Sun Chasing tours. Includes: Coach from Aswan to Abu Simbel in the wee hours of the morn prior to the festival commencement. Guided visit to Abu Simbel, the sunrise event, entrance fees and visitor ticket for this excursion. Return coach journey to Aswan after the event.
