Ballet lovers across the world will be more than familiar with the prestige attached to Russian ballet. The Mariinsky Festival draws performers, companies and fans to Russia’s cultural capital of St Petersburg.

The stars of the Mariinsky Ballet Company are joined by seven guest soloists, two premieres and a gala concert, making it a major highlight on the international dance calendar. 2011’s festival saw performers from the London’s Royal Ballet, New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, with names like Vladimir Malakhov, Johan Kobborg, Svetlana Zakharova, and Benjamin Millepied, who worked with Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan.
