Being the last lot of backpackers on the Inca trail we shopped at the markets and purchased some lovely capsicums (or so we thought!). The lady said picante (meaning hot) but we chose to ignore her words. We whipped up an amazing chilli but even a fire breathing dragon could not even stomach this one. The capsicums turned out to be chillies and it wasn’t until our fire breathing sandwiches the next day with capsicum that we realized our mistake! Moral of the story when someone says picante in South America – believe them!!
